ABOUT US

Chiltern Solicitors is a niche legal practice which specialises in employment issues. We also represent clients in relation to motoring offences.

The principal at Chiltern Solicitors is Philip Ivinson who was admitted as a solicitor in 1994. He has considerable experience in both employment and criminal/motoring matters, undertaking all such litigation personally. Prior to forming Chiltern Solicitors, Philip was a partner of a prominent local firm of solicitors in Beds and Herts and headed up their employment and criminal/motoring litigation department.


In February 2014, Charles Goldthorpe joined us as a consultant. Philip and Charles have previously worked together for some years. Charles brings with him over forty years experience in the legal profession. he is a Fellow of the Institute of Paralegals, and Associate of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and a member of PIL. Prior to joining us, Charles headed up the litigation department in a prominent local firm of solicitors.

Charles has considerable experience in commercial and civil litigation. He can assist with bad debts and is particularly experienced in landlord and tenant issues, together with service charge disputes and issues.

The aim of Chiltern Solicitors is simple. We aim to provide you with an excellent personal service and obtain the best possible outcome for you in relation to your matter. We also hope that our fees will prove to be very competitive in that we have set up the practice with the aim of keeping our overheads low. These savings then can be passed on to our clients.Our offices are open from 8.30am until 5.30pm with an out of office hours telephone number. We firmly believe that our clients deserve the best possible service and should be able to contact us out of office hours should the need arise. We are also pleased to offer out of office hours appointments, including both evenings and weekends. Home visits can be arranged if necessary. Our offices are wheelchair friendly.

Employment matters

We are happy to take instructions from both employers and employees. As such, we can assist either the employer or the employee to deal effectively with a number of different issues. These will include

Our aim for employers is to have appropriate procedures in place to avoid problems that can lead to employment tribunal claims that can be costly not only in man hours but also financially. We like to work alongside your existing employees to provide support and advice when necessary so as to ensure that any staffing issues are dealt with efficiently and indeed correctly.

Our aim for employees is to ensure that you are provided with advice as to what your rights are in the workplace.

If you have been dismissed, suffered discrimination or been made redundant we will assess your case and advise as to whether you can make a claim to a tribunal.

Motoring matters

We have considerable experience in representing motorists at both Magistrates’ and Crown Courts all over the country.

We appreciate how important your driving licence is to you and will provide you with the best possible advice so that you achieve the best possible result in your case. We can also assist in making an application for the early return of driving licences. Further, we have considerable experience in disciplinary hearings and appeals for private hire and hackney carriage licence holders. For any motoring issues please feel free to contact us.

Criminal litigation matters

We have considerable experience in this area and have represented people from offences such as minor matters of being drunk and disorderly to sexual offences and murders. We do not undertake legal aid work but are happy to accept instructions on a fee paying client basis. If your defence is successful, we will try and recover all or part of your costs by way of a defence costs order.

Wills and Probate

We can assist you to either draft a Will for the first time or, alternatively, you may wish to review an existing Will to see that it still meets your requirements. A well drafted Will ensures certainty and avoids the need for the rules of intestacy to apply. In drafting your will we Will ensure that your wishes.

In relation to probate, we can deal with the formalities of establishing the estate, paying any taxes and distributing the estate in accordance with terms of the Will.

We are able to advise upon and can provide a living Will should you so require.

If you require a Power of Attorney so that you can nominate a person to take care of your affairs should you become incapable, we are happy to assist you.

We can also provide advice of succession planning and provide you with tax advice in relation to your estate.

Civil and Commercial Litigation

From time to time disputes occur between parties that cannot be resolved informally. When such occasions arise we are happy to assist in resolving matters quickly and efficiently. This may involve anything from a boundary dispute to non-payment of an invoice or could include a commercial dispute over the terms of the contract.

We have advised both claimants and defendant on a wide range of issues. We are happy to accept instructions on a private paying basis but do not undertake legal aid work. On all occasions we will discuss with you the possibility of undertaking work for a fixed fee. In successful cases we will always try to recover your legal fees from the other side.
